After a weekend of theater!

WINTER BREAK continued...

After a weekend of theater, I found my wake-up call. Luckly, I had to report to the job at 12 noon so it wasn't all that bad.

Monday December 17th was my first day ever 'Substitute teaching'. My duty was to be the timeout/disciplinarian at a local elementary school. It was quite interesting, cute, and fun. The cute part about it is when dealing with the children with the problems that were sent to me was that they first didn't want to admit why they were seeing me. I talked things through with them, and did my best to set the troubled youth back on track - trying to change the youth of today at age 21... oh geez. I just was laughing inside in how simplistic the incidents seemed, it was a big deal in the Elementary School spectrum, and I just knew I couldn't tear a kid apart. As I said, I did the best I could with each case.

Tuesday, I was called in to be a Teacher's Assistant in the Special Ed department of the High School. Working in the High School was a breeze for me and quite akward - working among my former High School teachers, and family friends... for my parents are educators. On the way into school - driving with my mother who worked in the building, I mentioned that they should come up with another name for 'Special Ed'... like for instance Innovative Learning. I just felt it sounded so much better for the good of things. I basically just sat around... I had to attend Mr. O'Kane's English 11 class... in which I was in that same classroom doing the same exact work 4 years ago. The whole class was in a daze, some sleeping... just how I felt as a student of his. Re-visiting his classroom, I had a whole different perspective on his teachings. He's passionate about what he does, and tries his best to motivate the students and I just wanted to slap the students across silly for not appreciating what a great teacher he truly is.

Friday, I was back at the Elementary school being Mr. Disciplinarian, on the day before the Holiday break. I thought it was going to be a quiet day... but some kids were on that naughty list of Santa's.

After a full day at the Elementary school, I went shopping with my mother. I hadn't had a nap and here I'm still going. I have no idea if a career in Education is in my future but I'm fortunate to be substitute teaching and getting a little feel about it while working on my degree in Dance. I won't be able to do theater and dance all my life. I need to find my other outlets of interest and Education could just be it, after all having my mother and father being educators ... it just seems like a good fit for me to fall into. Who knows...

That's all for now.
Ciao.
